Bayelsa To Wield The Big Stick Against Errant Monarchs

The Bayelsa State Government on Wednesday read riot act to traditional rulers who indulge in acts capable of breaching the land peace, truncket growth and development in the state.

Deputy Governor of the State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, stated this while receiving a report from the Ad-hoc Committee on the Investigation and Resolution of the dispute between Korokorosei and Ondewari communities in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

The Deputy Governor in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mr Doubara Atasi and made available to newsmen warned that government would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against community leaders and rulers who refuse to live above board.

The Lord Deputy Governor who recalled the case of the deposed paramount ruler of Otuokpoti community in the Ogbia Local Governor Area, stressed that the government
would not fail to wield the big stick on any paramount ruler who fails to accept responsibility for communal actions that threaten peaceful coexistence in their domains.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo urged community leaders to desist acts that can exacerbate inter-communal crisis.

The Deputy Governor specifically appealed to the Amananaowei of Ondewari community and his Korokorosei counterpart to demonstrate sincerity by upholding the truth to enable government to resolve their differences amicably for the sake of peace.
