News Investigators/ Bauchi StateGovernor, Bala Mohammed, says his administration has allocated N112.7 billion for the education sector in 2026, underscoring commitment to boosting human capital development.
This significant investment, he said, aims to drive progress in the state’s education landscape.
Mr Mohammed said this on Saturday at the eighth, ninth, and 10th combined convocation ceremony of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau, Bauchi.
He described education as a game-changer for individuals and society, emphasising that his government sees investing in it as key to the state’s future.
The governor disclosed that over 15 per cent of the state’s annual budgets had consistently been allocated to education.
He said that N58.02 billion has been earmarked for higher education in the 2026 budget, including N40.6 billion for capital projects such as classrooms, hostels, laboratories, ICT centres and staff quarters.
The governor listed interventions at SAZU to include construction of 20 classrooms, student hostels at Gadau and Yuli campuses, staff quarters and improved security infrastructure.
Mr Mohammed highlighted other measures to strengthen the university, including regular salary payment, boosting funding, offering scholarships, cutting registration fees, and respecting the school’s autonomy.
The governor warned against practices that undermine academic integrity, like drug abuse and sexual harassment, saying those involved would face the law.
“Universities must remain safe spaces for learning, dignity and growth,” he said.
Mr Mohammed commended the university management and staff for their dedication, adding that the institution had continued to produce quality graduates who are contributing to the state’s workforce.
He said his government’s goal is to build a self-sufficient state, powered by skilled people capable of competing globally.
The governor assured the state’s continued support for SAZU in its quest to become a centre of academic excellence.
