Bandits Kidnap Many Students Of Federal University of Gusau

Some students of the Federal University of Gusau, Zamfara State have been kidnapped by armed bandits in the early hours of Friday.

It was gathered that most of the kidnap victims are female.

According to residents, the bandits in their large numbers invaded the Sabon-Gida community of the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State before taking away their victims.

Sabon-Gida village is a community sitting opposite the main campus of the Federal University of Gusau that is about 20 km from the state capital, Gusau.

Nazeer Sabon-Gida, a resident of Sabon-Gida, while speaking on the development with Channels TV, correspondent, said the gunmen invaded the community around 3 am and started shooting indiscriminately.

He disclosed that the bandits invaded three students’ hostels ransacked them before taking away all the students in the hostels

“They entered the town around 3 a.m. and started shooting indiscriminately.

“We have yet to confirm the number of students kidnapped because the bandits entered three hostels and kidnapped all the students there. It is difficult to ascertain their numbers now.” He said.

It was gathered that the bandits while  fleeing with the students engaged with troops of the Nigerian Army in a gun battle, but still escaped with the hostages.

“They were engaged by  troops of the Nigerian Army but the way these bandits operate, they will divide themselves into two. One group will move with the kidnap victims while the other will stay behind to protect the first group.

“The first group had left with the students while the second group engaged the army in a gun duel.”  Another resident added.

It would be recalled that in June, some of the students of the university protested the consistent kidnapping threats to their mates in Sabon-Gida and Damba.
