AU Schedules Its 48th Ordinary Session Of Executive Council For Feb. 11, 12

News Investigators/ The African Union (AU) has scheduled its 48th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council (ExC) for Feb. 11 and 12 at the AU’s headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Council is one of AU’s principal policy organs composed of Ministers of Foreign Affairs and other designated Ministers of AU Member States.

The organisation in a statement issued on its website on Wednesday, disclosed that the Council is responsible for coordinating and taking decisions on policies in areas of common interest to the AU Member States.

It is also responsible for preparing items for consideration by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, in line with the objectives of the AU Agenda-2063.

The organisation in the statement revealed the ExC would during the session consider the Report of the 51st Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) and deliberate on AU participation in the G20.

It will also conduct elections and appointments to AU organs and institutions, review the implementation of the ExC’s decision on the Skills Audit and Competency Assessment (SACA) process, consider draft legal instruments and institutional governance matters.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the process is the AU’s key institutional reform for matching its staff skills to a new structure aiming for efficiency through merit-based placement.
