Arsonists Set Ablze INEC Office In Abeokuta, Ogun State

Some suspected arsonists have set ablaze an office of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Iyana Mortuary lll, Abeokuta, the Ogun State.

The Network gathered those who perpetrated  the dastardly act soaked bread in petrol and threw many of them at different angles of the INEC office to set it ablaze from multiple points.

It was gathered that the the arsonists numbering eight scaled the fence to set the office on fire from the back.m

 A source said that a security guard on duty made a distress call to the police operatives at Ibarapa police division who promptly mobilized to the scene and alerted the fire service authorities whose men put out the fire.

The Network further learnt that the store, the Registration Area Officer’s office, and the conference room were affected by the fire even though no life life was lost nor  injury sustained.

 The Ogun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Niyi Ijalaye; confirmed the incident, which he described it as shocking.

He said that the police had commenced investigation into the incidents, adding that the damage done  by the fire was still being assessed.

“It is correct that our office was set on fire. The police are investigating. I do not know what to say. I’m in shock myself.

“We called the police and other security agencies at night. The fire brigade put the situation under control. The level of damage is still being assessed.

“It is very shocking and untoward. The security agencies are doing their very best. We are meeting again later today to come up with other strategies (toward securing our facilities).” He said
