APGA Candidate, Willie Obiano, Wins Anambra Guber Election

By Sadiq Umar – The Anambra State governor and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Willie Obiano, has won the governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Obiano winner having won in all the 21 local government areas of the state with a total of about 234,071 votes.

The Returning Officer for the election, Zana Akpagu, the Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, who announced the results declared Mr. Obiano, as winner having polled the highest number of votes in the election.

Mr. Akpagu said that a total 448, 771 votes were cast during the election on Saturday. Of the total votes, 422, 314 were valid while 26,457 were rejected.

He was followed by the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Tony Nwoye, who polled a total of 98,752 votes.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Oseloka Obaze emerged third while Osita Chidoka of United Progressives Party, UPP, came a distant fourth.

Mr. Chidoka, has already conceded defeat, saying he lost to superior financial power.

Anambra election went down in history as being the governorship election with the highest number of candidates, 37, in Nigeria’s electoral history.
