American Businessman Commits Suicide In Lagos Over Economic Crunch

By Dipo Awojobi – A 57 year old American businessman identified as, Charles Carlson, allegedly hung himself on the ceiling in his hotel room in Lekki, Lagos after losing a huge contract, according to The Herald.

Mr. Carlson is the owner of Brava Group of companies that started operations in Nigeria in 2012.

The businessman allegedly hung himself after lodging into a hotel in Lekki phase 1, Lagos, the cause of which seems to be the loss of a huge contract.

The police said that Mr Carlson, who lost his investment in oil business due to the ongoing economic recession has been battling severe depression since mid-August.

The economic recession has made things hard to come by and many businesses and business men have found themselves destroyed by the situation.

Mr. Carlson is not the first person turning to suicide over the hardship that has hit the nation in recent times, a few days ago there was a story of a man who committed suicide due to the harsh conditions of the nation in Akwa Ibom state. The 50-year-old man called Ekanem Edet had left behind two boys.

Mr. Carlson was 57 years of age. His body has been moved to  the mortuary and the case has been transferred to the Homicide Department of SCID in Yaba Lagos.
