Adamawa Customs Command Destroys Expired Foreign Rice, Vows To Block All Leakages

ADAMAWA/By Tom Garba – The Nigeria Customs Service Area Command of Adamawa and Taraba has vowed to remain resolute in blocking all areas of leakages, facilitate legitimate trade and ensure the security of Nigerians by ensuring that the right things are done.

The Area Comptroller for Adamawa and Taraba, Olutade Francis Adetoye stated this in Yola on Thursday during the disposal and destruction of seized expired goods along Numan – Yola road.

Mr Adetoye expressed the hope that the Customs Service is poised to carry out its mandate of suppression of smuggling, facilitation of trade and protection of lives of Nigerians among other functions.

 He explained that the Service had developed zero tolerance for smuggling which has led to rigorous policing of the vast land borders of Adamawa /Taraba States has yielded various seizures of used expired foreign rice and rolls of cigarettes which are disposed.

The Area Comptroller further noted that the Comptroller General of  Customs, Col.Hammed Ibrahim Ali (Rtd) who had been toiling day and night to see to the positive reforms of the Service and greater revenue generation approved and directed the disposal of these expired and uncustoms goods kept at Government Warehouse in Yola.

He however assured that the Command will continue to wage war on smuggling of contraband and other illegitimate trade within the Area Command to ensure that all smuggling and criminal activities in the Command are completely eliminated or reduced to the barest level.

 Mr Francis Adetoye also called for synergy between the Customs, the Military, Police and other paramilitary agencies for effective policing of the Nigerian borders and commended all the Service Chiefs that were present.

 Items disposed off by burning includes 49 bags of 50kg bags of foreign rice, 16 by 50kg of foreign rice as well as 550 Rolls of Gold seal Cigarettes.
