ACCIDENT: JONATHAN CONFIRMS DEATH OF TWO POLICE INSPECTORS IN HIS CONVOY 

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has confirmed the death of two policemen in his convoy in the late  afternoon accident that involved him.

The President who escaped unhurt in the unfortunate accident also confirmed that two other aides who sustained injuries had been rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Ikechukwu Eze, Special Adviser (Media & Publicity) to the former President, gave the names of the late policemen as Inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma, in a statement on Wednesday.

Jonathan confirmed that the accident occurred around the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport as he was driving to his residence in the city.

Jonathan who described the accident as painful and heartbreaking said that he was in a state of mourning .

Jonathan described the deceased, inspectors as fine officers who displayed dedication to their duties and service to the nation.

“Two other officers sustained injuries in the accident which involved a car conveying the security men. They were rushed to a hospital in Abuja where they are responding to treatment.

“The office of the former President has offered condolences to the families of the bereaved and the Police High Command,” Ikechukwu Eze said.

The statement quoted the former President as having prayed for the eternal repose of the souls of the late policemen and for the Almighty God to give the families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
