News Investigators/ Students of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, have received cash rewards totalling N16 million alongside other Nigerian winners at the third Huawei Education Summit (THES26) in Abuja.
Auwalu Umar, the Director Public Affairs Directorate of the University disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Zaria.
Mr Umar said the rewards recognised their outstanding performances while representing Nigeria under Huawei’s Southern Africa region at the 2025/2026 Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals held in Shenzhen, China, in June.
He added that the global competition attracted 177 teams from 40 countries, after more than 220,000 students worldwide participated in the qualifying stages that commenced in October 2025.
According to him, ABU student Yunusa Mohammed received part of a N2.5 million cash reward after Nigeria’s Computing Track team secured second position at the Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global Finals.
“Three ABU students, Abdulroqeeb Adekunle, Shefiu Wakili and Musa Yakubu, shared in a N3.5 million cash reward after Nigeria’s two Cloud Track teams emerged overall winners globally.
“Kumba-Bana Tekanyi, an ABU student, received part of a N5 million cash reward after Nigeria’s all-female Network Track team won the grand prize at the global competition.
“ABU’s AI/Innovation team, comprising Ruqqayyah Labo, Khadija Khalid and Grace Olorunfemi, received a N5 million cash reward after winning the grand prize with their ParaVision project,” he said.
Mr Umar said the summit attracted officials of the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, National Commission for Colleges of Education, ASCON, vice-chancellors, ICT directors and academics from tertiary institutions nationwide.
