No fewer than 81 suspected human traffickers were arrested and over 85 victims rescued by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Anambra state in 2022.

State Commander, Mrs Ibadin Judith Chukwu disclosed this during a courtesy visit to the wife of the state governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo.

Chukwu appreciated the recent approval given by the state executive council for the Action Plan on Human Trafficking, put together by the State Task Force.

She appealed for provision of closed shelter for rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking in the State.

Responding, Mrs Soludo appreciated NAPTIP for the visit, describing trafficking in persons as “a cancer” which had cut deep into society and needed to be rooted out.

She called for greater collaboration between the Federal and State Governments as well as relevant stakeholders to ensure successful fight against the scourge in the society.

Mrs Soludo pledged the continued support of the present administration in the fight against trafficking in the area.
