News Investigators/ The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said that over four million people were yet to enroll and be captured on its data base in Oyo State.
Femi Aniye, Team lead, Change Management Champion, NIMC, Oyo State, said this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Mr Akeem Abas, on Tuesday in Ibadan.
Mr Aniye said the commission has enrolled over five million people, but still has over four million residents yet to be registered.
“We cannot close that gap with government alone.
” NIMC is seeking partnership with NUJ not just asking for coverage because the media is the most trusted voice in every community in Oyo State,” Aniye said.
He said that collaborating with the media could improve enrolment of the four million remaining people in the state and educate nine million people that their NIN is their right and their power.
” We want NUJ Oyo to be our Official Media and Advocacy Partner on this enrollment drive.
“In return, NIMC will ensure NUJ members benefit first in jobs, training, in access, and in recognition
” NIN is now the key to access. No NIN, no bank transaction above a threshold.
“No NIN, no government intervention. No NIN, challenges with school, health, and security.
” President Bola Tinubu has signed the new NIMC Act. The Act has changed the game, NIMC is no longer just an enrollment agency.
” The commission now is the Root Certification Authority for Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure,” Mr Aniye said.
According to him, with the collaboration of the media, NIN, Oyo State, will become number one for digital identity in Nigeria.
Abas thanked the team for the visit and pledged media cooperation with the commission.
