2027: Lagos CP Urges Political Parties To Notify Police Before Campaigns

News Investigators/ The Police Command in Lagos State has urged political parties to notify it well ahead of planned rallies, campaigns, processions and other political activities requiring security coverage ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, made the call in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi.

Mr Tijani said that timely notification would enable the command to conduct proper security assessments, deploy adequate personnel and make necessary operational arrangements to ensure the safety of participants and members of the public.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing adequate security for all political parties, candidates, supporters and participants without discrimination or preference.

The commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public peace, threatening public safety or resulting in a breakdown of law and order.

“The command is ready to provide adequate security coverage for all political parties, ensuring a safe and conducive environment for their lawful political activities.

“Any political party that fails to provide timely notification or disregard established security arrangements, thereby contributing to a breach of peace, would be held accountable in accordance with the law, ” he said.

The police boss said the need for cooperation, timely communication and strict adherence to security guidelines was also emphasised at the 2027 General Elections Stakeholders’ Security Engagement held on Oct. 15.

Mr Tijani said political parties and other relevant stakeholders were reminded of their responsibilities in ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

He urged political parties to demonstrate responsibility, cooperate with security agencies and ensure that their rallies, campaigns and other political activities were conducted peacefully and in compliance with the law.
