News Investigators/ National Women Leader (NWL) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mary Alile, has inaugurated the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a women movement, designed to mobilise grassroots support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the ceremony on Friday in Abuja, Mrs Alile said that the group is made up of female political gladiators and seasoned grassroots mobilisers from across the country.
The APC women leader said that President Bola Tinubu had archived so much within two years in office and there was need to take the message to the grassroots.
According to her, from bold economic reforms to strategic investments in infrastructure, social investment programs, education, agriculture and women empowerment, Tinubu has shown consistent commitment to repositioning Nigeria for greatness.
Mrs Alile said that APC women must be bold narrators of the success story and spread the message of Renewed Hope Agenda to all the wards, communities, churches, mosques and marketplaces.
She charged the members to stand firm in reshaping the cause of history and the trajectory of nation.
“Let your commitment to the APC course be stronger than ever before and let us wear our party colours with pride and defend its ideals with courage.
“Let us organise, mobilise and energise every corner of our constituencies; let us raise new leaders, mentor the young and carry the flame of progress forward.
“We are the Tinubu Torchbearers. We are not just lighting the path to 2027, we are setting it ablaze with unity, purpose and passion.
“Let history remember this moment as the time Nigerian women stood up, rose together and changed the trajectory of a nation,” she said.
Mrs Alile said that wife of the president, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, had tirelessly dedicated herself to uplifting Nigerian women through countless initiatives from education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, to other social intervention programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
Mrs Alile pledged that the Tinubu Torchbearers group would walk in her footsteps to multiply the impact of efforts so far made at the grassroots level.
On women representation in governance, Alile also charged women across the country not to relent in the advocacy for special seats for women in the legislature bill.
She said that it was not the time to sit on the fence, but to mobilise, lobby and influence all stakeholders to ensure the passage of the bill.
She said that the bill was long overdue as Nigeria is ranked very low when it comes to women representation in governance in Africa.
Responding, the TTB Coordinator for Anambra, Princess Ekene Ozobu, expressed the gratitude of all coordinators to NWL for finding them worthy to serve.
She pledged that the group would hit the ground running and bearing the torch of Tinubu’s achievement till 2027.
“We will not disappoint you, as you have nominated us and you have seen our track record, we would continue and make sure that we take this touch down to each and every number of the society,” she said.
