2023: ORTOM’S COMMITTEE SCRAPS PDP’S ZONING ARRANGEMENT, THROWS PRESIDENTIAL TICKET OPEN

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Committee on zoning led Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, may have scrapped the zoning arrangement for the party.

A source said that commitee also decided that the race for the party’s Presidental ticket be thrown open.

This contradicts the clamour by the Southern governors of the party to zone the presidential to the South ahead of the primary election of PDP, which is scheduled for 28th May 2022.

Ortom is alleged to be implementing the recommendation of the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, whose committee had earlier recommended the scrapping of zoning from the party.

The committee was also said to have decided to throw open the presidential ticket of the party.

The Network gathered that after three meetings in the last two weeks, members of the 37 man zoning committee demanded that the Presidential ticket be thrown open.

”We have resolved that the ticket be thrown open. This will allow those who have bought forms to contest.” A source said

Ortom told Journalists after the meeting, on Tuesday; “We have just finished our meeting, after we rose from our meeting last week, today we decided that we would meet and by the Grace of God we have unanimously adopted a position that will be sent to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our Party that appointed us.

“The good news for our teaming supporters of the PDP and Nigerians is that we have resolved and every one of us, the 37 members unanimously adopted the position that we are going to present to NEC”, he said
