•••Says Hold Me Accountable; Nobody Will Steal Nigeria’s Money Under Me
••• Promise To Bring Back Security, Peace If Elected.
Attah Ede, Makurdi
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, on Wednesday held his Presidential Campaign Rally in Makurdi, the Benue State capital with a call on Benue people to vote for his party come 2023 general elections.
He promised to bring security and peace back to the state if elected as Nigeria President.
While addressing the party supporters who turned out in large numbers during the campaign rally which was held at IBB square Makurdi, Obi stated that when he wins the forthcoming elections, Benue farmers will return to their farms and live peacefully in their various communities.
The former Anambra State Governor said he intends to restructure the entire security architecture of Nigeria, increase their personnel and re-equip them to ensure that all citizens enjoy adequate security and peace in their respective domain.
He stated that the youths of the country must be productive stressing that his government will create massive employment for the teeming youths to take them off the streets and reduce crime to the barest minimum across the country.
“Vote for us and hold us responsible. Vote for us and see us build a new Nigeria. We will secure Benue and return peace to the communities. We will reduce criminality. We will also invest in education.
“We will not take anybody for granted. We are not going to make you fake promises. It’s not going to be easy. The task of leading a country is a job that requires every energy. Do not entrust the country into the hands of people who don’t have the energy,” he said.
“Nobody will steal Nigeria’s money under my leadership . This is because over the years, the government has been awarding contracts to dredge the river Niger and Benue with nothing to show for it. This had led to the incessant flooding of the states across the country”, Obi stated.
He pledged that when elected, his administration will dredge the river Niger and river Benue saying he was sure it would not only reduce the flooding in the country but will provide river transportation.
He stated that Nigeria is called a giant of Africa but “We don’t want a sick giant who cannot feed her children. We want Nigeria to be a giant in deed. We want to be able to give you back your state. Vote for us, you will see Labour party change Nigeria,” Obi added.
Earlier, Governorship candidate of LP in the state, Herman Hembe, said his administration will strengthen the anti open grazing law promulgated by the Governor Samuel Ortom administration to checkmate rampant attacks on farmers in the state.
Hembe said, “Our people are no longer able to go to their farms and there is an anti open grazing law in place, which was enacted as a panacea to addressing perennial attacks on innocent farmers”.
While lamenting the plight of civil servants and pensioners over non payment of their entitlements running into years now, Hembe said if elected Governor come 2023, he will address the issues and grant autonomy to local governments to boost development at the grassroots.
