By Sadiq Umar- The 2017 Budget may have suffered serious setback over last week’s Police raid of the House of Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje, even as senators condemned the action describing it an affront on the legislature.

Senators who spoke at the Wednesday plenary condemned the manner armed securitymen invaded Senator Goje’s Asokoro residence.

The condemnation followed a point of Order raised by Senator Goje who lamented that armed policemen invaded his house in a commando style, purporting to be searching for suspicious fund.

The former governor of Gombe State told his colleagues that the armed men carted away some items from his house including “sensitive documents relating to the 2017 Appropriation” that is under consideration.

He said the 2017 budgeting process which was at report stage has now been stalled by the action of the police.

The senate had earlier assured the nation of quick passage of the 2017 budget.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, is currently in a closed-door meeting with the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

Mr. Idris arrived the premises of the National Assembly at about 3:15 p.m before proceeding to the office of the Deputy Senate President.

The IGP, it was learnt, came to explain to the senate leadership the reason for the raid of Senator Goje’s house.

It would be recalled the armed policemen last Thursday evening raided Mr. Goje’s residence and carted away some amount of money as well as computing equipment.
