…Says It Was Laden With Irregularities

By Omololu Adebayo, Abuja.

Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, has called for the cancellation of the senatorial election  results, alleging irregularities in the last Saturday polls.

Former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a senator, Barnabas Gemade, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner of the Zone ‘A’ senatorial district election in the state.

Suswam who is the PDP senatorial candidate for Zone ‘A’ senatorial district in Benue alleged that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Istifanus Dafwang had connived with the opposition party to ensure that its candidate emerges the winner of the election.

He also alleged that a lot of irregularities such as the use of armed persons to harass electoral officers and voters including seizure of election results had trailed the electoral process, adding that the results declaring senator Gemade winner were manipulated in figures.

Suswam maintained that apart from having more votes than accredited, the REC in charge of the zone had also cancelled results of some polling units which were his stronghold while excusing the faults from other polling units like Logo, Ukum, parts of Konshisha and Vandeikya.

The Governor said these reasons are why he is calling for the cancellation of the Benue Zone A senatorial election.
