Sunday Night Tragedy: 60 Dead In Adamawa Road Crash

By Tom Garba, Yola – No fewer than 60 persons are feared dead Sunday when a Trailer carrying scores of passengers crashed in Ngorore, a busy outskirt town in Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Eyewitness said the overloaded vehicle with registration number DKU 427 XA was conveying passengers and 60 heads of cattle as at the time of the incident.

They were said to be returning from Song market when the accident occurred.

“A total of sixty (60) persons have been confirmed dead while 29 others were injured on Sunday night in Ngurore, a suburb of Yola North Local Government Area of Adamawa State as a result of an auto crash,” eyewitness told journalists Monday.

According to the eyewitness who preferred to be anonymous, the driver of the vehicle which was on full speed when it lost control and swerved into the bush and ran into a deep ditch.

The incident which happened at about 8.30pm Sunday night caused a long traffic jam on the ever-busy Yola – Gombe Federal Highway.

The witness added that charred human bodies and those of the cattle littered the surroundings, even as many of them were smashed beyond recognition.

Humanitarian and Rescue teams were on hand to render assistance to the injured as the dead were evacuated to the morgue of the Yola Specialist Hospital.

Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the tragic accident.
