Senate Confirms Momoh As NERC Chairman

By Nuel Suji – Nigerian Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of James Momoh as the chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

The confirmation was sequel to the report of Senate Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy which screened the nominee for the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) sent by the President Muhammadu Buhari last year.

Momoh is a professor of electrical engineering and computer science; and director of Energy Services and Controls at Howard University, United States of America.

In his academic record, he had his Diploma in Electrical Engineering (1964-1968) at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos while he had his M. A(Theology) 1988-1991 at School of Divinity, Howard University.

Also, he had B.S.E.E(1972-1975), Top honor for graduating class, Department of Electrical Engineering, Howard University -3 years, M. S. E. E(1975-1976), Department of Electrical Engineering, Howard University -3 years, M. S. S. E(1978-1980) system Engineering, University of Pennsylvania,  Phd(1981-1983), Department of Electrical Engineering, Howard University, Dissertation Topic:” Corrective Control of Power System During An Emergency. ”

Buhari had transmitted nomination of Akintunde Akinwande a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, for Senate confirmation, but Mr. Akinwande rejected the appointment.
