REP Aspirant Canvasses Constitutional Roles For Monarchs, Begins Consultations

An aspirant into the House of Representatives Mr. Olayinka Oladimeji Segelu has canvassed for a constitutional role for traditional rulers as custodians of people’s culture and societal values, urging delegates at the ongoing National Conference to ensure that the traditional institution is given its pride of place.

Segelu who is seeking to represent Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency at the federal House spoke at the occasion of the installation of Alhaji Rahman Adegboyega Lawal as the new Baale of Molunkan village Lalupon, Lagelu Local Government area of Oyo State.

He also remarked that he “joined numerous well-wishers at home and in diaspora to felicitate with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade (CFR) for his centennial birthday celebration and for the Easter.”

Segelu hinted that traditional rulers are strategically positioned in the society and are in the best position to serve as a link between the government and the grass root people in the design and formulation of programmes that will impact directly on the lives of the people.

He described the new Baale of Molunkan as a lover of his people, selfless and accommodating leader, with the right exposure and connection to attract development to the community and environs.

Olayinka Segelu at the occassion asked for the support of the traditional rulers, Baales, chiefs and the good people of Akinyele/ Lagelu Federal Constituency.

Segelu said “I wish to develop and build infrastructures and social amenities to create a better life for my people,I want to help my people and I promise to give them good representation if elected in 2015.

“I have over seven years experience as a Legislative Aide at the National Assembly. I intend to take advantage of my rich history, pedigree and experience to bring federal presence to Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency for the benefit of my people if they elect me as their able representative in 2015”.

He express his deep appreciation to prominent traditional rulers in Akinyele/Lagelu Federal constituency including the Onijaye of Ijaye,  Oniroko of Iroko, Onikereku of Ikereku, Onilalupon of Lalupon,  and other Baales and chiefs for their unflinching support in fostering unity and peace across the constituency.
