Police Nabs Six Diesel Oil Thieves At National Assembly

By Nuel Suji – Officers of the Nigerian Police on Tuesday arrested six out of 7-man gang oil thieves who were caught siphoning diesel from the heavy duty generating sets at the Annex area of the National Assembly complex.nass1

Acco‎rding to Police source, the thieves stole eleven jerry cans of twenty-five litres each and were caught at a point of loading inside a Gulf Volkswagen car brought for the purpose by an eagle-eyed security on night duty who alerted others and promptly arrested them.

But one of the thieves escaped arrest and he still on the run but police is still on the hunt for him.

However, two of the thieves are members of the staff of the National Assembly, specifically Sergeant-At-Arms Department the remaining five were recruited from Tipper Garage, a nearby heavy truck park.

Investigation by our correspondent revealed that after siphoning from the generating set and was not enough they however moved to the fuel dump specifically to power the generating sets.

It was also found out that one of the two members of staff of the National Assembly who led the gang invited five others from the tipper garage nearby to accompany him on the act and they entered the complex around 4.20 am in the morning of Tuesday.
