“I was a member of the APC National Congress Appeal Panel here in Lagos in 2015. We ratified whatever they did then. I was a member of the National Convention Planning Committee of the party in Lagos here then. Then, Governor Rochas Okorocha was a presidential candidate of the party.

“I led my team to congratulate our brother, Hon. Jude Emeka Idimogu as the representative of Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly. We also came to appreciate him even though he is not in our party, he is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“He is not a representative of the PDP in the House of Assembly, he is representing the people of the area generally. He is also from Imo State, and having met him in his office, we felt it was proper to thank you, the Speaker of the House, for all the support you have been giving him.

Asimobi revealed that Hon. Idimogu told Governor Okorocha of the Speaker’s kind treatment towards him and about his support for him since he got to the House.

“I said there was no way we would come here without showing our appreciating to you. It was also to send appreciation to the Yoruba nation for voting a non-indigene to be a member of the House from the state. It also shows that the Nigerian nation is one.

“We want to thank you and congratulate you for emerging the Speaker of the House. We are humbled by the way you received us here,” he said.

Also speaking, Hon. Idimogu expressed his appreciation to the Speaker for what he has been doing for him since he got to the House.

He said: “You have been very good to me and I would use everything within my power to protect your interest. I want to tell you it was God that brought me here for a purpose, which I don’t know yet.

“When you want Ibos, call on me, we would come. As at today, Ibos form half of the population of the state. We are grateful to you and I believe we can work together to achieve a greater height,” said.

The lawmaker used the occasion to inform the SA and his team that Speaker Obasa has also been nominated as Man of The Year in the state. He encouraged them to vote for him, and promised to mobilise the Ibos in the state to continue to vote for him for the purpose.

In his comments, Speaker Obasa thanked the visiting team for the honour and respect of visiting him in his office.

“We thank you and I appreciate your coming. Hon. Jude Idimogu is our friend and colleague. It is not about party, it is about delivering and protecting the interest of the people of the state.

“I want to thank you for recognising the good work that this House is doing. We have been working without letting down our party. Yorubas are known for our accommodating nature and we will continue to do that,” he said.

Obasa said that the House was not against the election of someone from another state to represent the people, while calling on the people of Imo State to replicate the gesture in the state by electing a Yorubaman to represent the people of the state in the House of Assembly.
