A Senator  representing Ondo South Senatorial District, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere  on Tuesday raised the alarm over the sales of dangerous concoction which they erroneously claimed could save lives from the Ondo strange deaths by some people in the town.

Senator Kunlere who disclosed this while speaking newsmen in Abuja implored relevant stakeholders including the National Orientation Agency to carry out public enlightenment in the entire coastal and Riverrine communities in the state before more deaths would be recorded through the consumption of the said concoction.

In his words,”The strange death at Ode-Irele town is highly unfortunate. We are still getting conflicting signals. Some are attributing it to mysterious spirits,  some to ethanol,  some to exhumation of a corpse.

“However, we are happy that it is not Ebola because that would have been very devastating since the Ode- Irele town is adjacent to other communities in the Niger Delta area along the same route in the river.

“They share same road both on land and on river and almost attend same market so if such thing should spread there it would be worse than Ebola.

“What is of concern to us now is that some people are already mixing local gin with substances that are having soaps which are dangerous.

“It is very dangerous when people mix concoction and described it as a magic wand to take care of certain ailments (Oogun ategun). They packaged it in bottles, and people will be drinking what they don’t know the content.”

He however applauded all stakeholders, both local and foreign,  including international community for the prompt action so far taken.

“National Orientation Agency,  the state and local governments information units should do more to  allay the fears of the people that it is not Ebola.”
