The group, Muslim Media Watch Group (MMWG), Monday declared that the government’s rescue efforts on the abducted girls was taking too long.

The group, made the declaration in a statement issued Abuja by its National Coordinator, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent.

According to the statement, “The release or rescue of the girls from their abductors by the federal government by whatever approach it wants to use, is taking too long a time, going by the number of days the girls have spent in captivity and the attendant trauma their parents and guidance must have been passing through at home, not to even mention those reported to have died among them,” it stated.

“Added to this, are tension, anxiety and uncertainty pervading the Nation as a result of the national embarrassment and other related problems of insecurity rocking the land almost on daily basis largely through the activities of the Boko Haram insurgents.”

The group argued that negotiation with terrorists by the government and intensive prayers against terrorism and insurgency in the land by religious leaders across the divides, are the surest solutions to the release of the girls.

Alternatively, according to the media watchers, if government wants to forge ahead with military solution to the intractable security challenges, advanced and functional intelligence gathering mechanism that can easily locate sponsors and perpetrators of insurgency in the land should be quickly made available to the relevant security agencies.

The Group in the statement also admonished the ruling class in the country to be cautious on their utterances and conduct in the society which it believed, were part of the remote causes of the problems at hand.

“The ruling class should know that their utterances, action and general conduct are largely responsible for the current state of the Nation.

“They could stem the tide of the current crises of insecurity, unemployment, financial impropriety manifested through corruption etc, by resolving to live caring and benevolent lives for the masses”, it posited.

The Media Watchers however commended the military and other security agencies on the fight they have put up to so far in curtailing the activities of the insurgents.
