President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the appointment of Mr. Saleh Dumona as the new helmsman for the Federal Aviation Authority . He is to replace Mr. George Uriesi as Managing-Director.
The President also approved the appointment of Mr. Benedict Adeyileka as the acting Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA pending the senate confirmation of a substantive DG .
The re-organization in the ministry of aviation was the fallout of the allegations of sleaze in the purchase of two armoured cars last year that led to the recent sack of the former Aviation Minister Mrs Stella Oduah.
Until his appointment as the new FAAN MD yesterday, Mr. Dumona was the Director Projects at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN Abuja.
Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sam Nwaobasi, who announced the new appointments in a statement said, the president also approved Capt. Muhktar Usman, who was Commissioner in charge of Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau, AIPB to replace Capt. Fola C. Akinkuotu as Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) subject to confirmation by the Senate.
Also affected by the reorganisation is Engr. Ibrahim Abdulsalam (General Manager, Procurements,Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA) to replace Engr. Nnamdi Udoh as Managing Director.
The statement said: “Capt. Samuel Akinyele Caulcrick (Government Safety Inspector & ICAO Focal Point for Nigeria on line Aircraft Safety Information Systems, OASIS) is to replace Capt. (Mrs.) Chinyere Kalu, (who was Sunday night given a centenary award as the first female pilot in the country), as Rector of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).”
Also, Dr. Engr. Felix A. Abali, Director Licencing, (NCAA) is to replace Capt. Muhktar Usman as Commissioner, Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIPB). Dr. Tony Anuforo was the only one who retains his position as Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMMET).
