Former Minister of Information and delegate at the ongoing National Conference, Professor Dora Akunyili, has dispelled rumour making the rounds that she has died, describing it as “same baseless rumour circulated every 2/3 days by some people for reasons best known to them.

Media reports had it on Friday that the one-time Director-General of National Agency For Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), died in an Indian hospital of a heart-related ailment.

But Akunyili, on Saturday through her media Adviser, Mr. Isaac Umunna, said she is alive.

Umunna said: “Please disregard the rumour about Prof. Dora Akunyili’s purported death. It’s the same baseless rumour circulated every 2/3 days by some people for reasons best known to them.

“They have been at this for about 4 weeks now and are likely to continue, since they apparently derive pleasure from doing so.

“The situation, as confirmed by former Anambra Governor Peter Obi, who visited Dora in the hospital earlier this week, is that she is getting better. Thank you all.” Umunna told journalist Saturday.
