Oyewole, who headed the mobile police details attached to the governor was attacked and killed by the armed robbers on Wednesday evening, October 19 in Akure, Ondo State capital.

It was gathered that the hoodlums numbering three, killed Oyewole, a Deputy Superintendent of Police when he was at his house located at Akure-Owo road with members of his family.

Narrating the incident to reporters, the deceased’s son, Dare said his father was eating when the gunmen entered into their house at about 7pm.

He said that his father was informed by one of the neighbours of the arrival of the robbers, adding that his father brought out his service pistol and followed the neighbour to his apartment in order to send away the suspected hoodlums.

But on noticing Oyewole coming, the robbers exchanged gunshots with him, leaving the officer to runaway but with severe injury.

However, it was gathered that the officer was not seen until Thursday morning, when they found his dead body on the ground. He was said to have died as a result of the gunshot injury he sustained in the night.

Another resident of the area, on condition of anonymity, said after attacking Oyewole, the suspected robbers came to another person’s house in the area and took their four-year-old boy hostage.

According to the source, the robbers told the mother to open the door, saying they would kill the boy if she refused to open the door.

But after waiting at the door and moving around the premises with the boy for about 30 minutes without gaining access to the house, the hoodlums angrily hit the boy’s head with machete, injuring him.

Reacting to the report, Femi Joseph, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPR0) of the state police command, confirmed the killing and said the command had begun investigation into the matter.

The police spokesman said that Oyewole was an officer attached to the Mobile Unit of the command, describing the late police officer as a disciplined and hardworking policeman.

Oyewole’s death came barely a month after a former caretaker chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ondo State and Governor Olusegun Mimiko’s ally, Evangelist Niyi Pirisola was assassinated.

The incident was alleged to have happened in the earlier hours of today, Friday, September 2.
