By Sadiq Umar – Workers of the Federal Ministry of Finance on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, calling for the sack of the Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.

The workers who were demanding payment of their allowances to the tune of N1.2 billion, accused the minister of receiving N30 million as annual house rent while refusing to pay their own allowances.

They displayed placards with various inscriptions, accusing Mrs Adeosun of poor performance in the management of the nation’s economy.

“Adeosun score card is zero,” ”Kemi Adeosun must go,” “You are destroying Federal Ministry of finance,” “Inflation is 15% courtesy of Adeosun,” some of the placards read.

Meanwhile, a top official in the ministry said there was no basis for the workers’ protest.

According to the source, the allowance they are demanding for is “illegal” even though the workers have been used to collecting it in the past.

The official however stressed that the allowance amounting to about N1.2 billion was not captured in the 2016 budget.
