FG Flay False Terror Alert

The federal government on Friday flayed false text messages and rumours making the round that schools are being targeted by insurgents for attack, describing it as an attempt to cause panic and anxiety in the populace.

This was disclosed by the Coordinator of the National Briefing Centre, Mike Omeri, at today’s briefing on the security situation in the country, where he spoke of the  determination of the security agencies to quash the growing insurgency in the land.

“This centre is aware of false alarm and rumours in form of text messages being circulated in the social media with a view to creating panic and anxiety among the populace to the effect that some schools are being targeted for attack.

“The truth remains that the military is winning the war and the nation shall surely triumph in this fight”, Omeri said.

He also condemned in  strong terms Wednesday bombing of EMAB Plaza, Abuja, which led to the death of more than twenty persons, saying, “This horrific approach by insurgents in killing women and innocent children and  citizens” trying eke a living would not cow the people into submission to the evil machinations of terrorists.
