Emefiele, Adelabu To Replace Sanusi, Lemo

Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Plc has been named as the replacement for the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Mr Lamido Sanusi, just as the Executive Director of First Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu has been nominated as deputy CBN governor.

Adelabu would replace the former deputy governor of the apex bank, Mr. Tunde Lemo whose tenure may have been cut short alongside Sanusi. Sanusi is due for retirement later this year.

Few hours after suspension of the embattled Central Bank Governor, Mallam  Sanusi, President Goodluck Jonathan nominated the Managing Director of Zenith Bank Mr Godwin Emefiele as new CBN governor.

The President in a letter to the Senate President, Senator David Mark and read on the floor of the Senate yesterday specifically requested the Senate to confirm Zenith bank boss as CBN governor.

Mr Emefiele is expected to take over from Sanusi who is due to serve out his tenure in June 2014.

Sanusi who emerged in controversial over $49 billion missing oil revenue was however suspended from office yesterday.

According to the letter, in view of the fact that the tenure of the current Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) will end in June 1, 2014 and pursuant to the provision of section8(1) and (2) of the CBN Act, 2007.

” I here by forward the name of Mr. Godwin Emefiele for kind consideration and confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for appointment as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

Also, the name of Mr. Adelabu Adebayo Adekola was forwarded for kind consideration and confirmation by the Senate as Deputy Governor of CBN.
