Drug War: NDLEA Confiscates 981Kg Of Cannabis

YOLA/By Tom Garba – In its efforts to rid the state of illicit drugs and other substance harmful to health, the Adamawa state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has seized 870 blocks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 981kilogrames.

The state Commander, Yakubu Kibo who revealed this, Tuesday, at a press briefing in Yola, disclosed that the seizure was made possible through sophisticated intelligence employed by the command.

According to him, the command has sealed the premises where the cannabis was discovered.

While showing newsmen round the warehouse in Damilu where the cannabis were discovered, Kibo called on landlords in the state to make it a point of duty to know their tenants and the type of business they are involved in before leasing their property to them.

Speaking on the challenges faced in the year 2016, the commander said they faced a lot of challenges some of which are; lack of funds, lack of logistics, inadequate manpower, inappropriate office complex and lack of proper rehabilitation center.

Kibo however maintained that despite the challenges, the command did not fail in doing their work, “in the year ending, we arrested 300 suspects with 7,083.664kilogram of narcotics and psychotropic substance, 120 convictions were made and 17drug dependent persons between 18 and20years were success fully counseled”.

The NDLEA boss however called upon the state government, spirited individuals and the general public to come to the aid of the agency for maximum productivity, and also to create a drug free Adamawa.

Commenting about the year 2017, the commander said the agency is poised to dismantle the remaining vestige of drug cartels in the state, “ we will also carry out massive enlightment campaign targeting students”
