Confab Adjourns Plenary To Fine-tune Membership List

The ongoing National Conference Monday adjourned its sitting to 4:00 pm on Tuesday to enable the secretariat fine-tune names of delegates and the Committees they were expected to serve.
At present, the conference secretariat has drafted , about 20 Committees were in which delegates were at liberty to choose any three where they would like to serve.
 The adjournment of yesterday sitting  came immediately r the conference had unanimously condemned the bomb blasts at Nyanya, a suburb in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Adjourning the yesterday plenary , chairman of the National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi, pleaded  that although a lot of work has gone into the compilation of committee membership, there were still some more work to be done before the list would be made public.
He said in view of that, it was necessary to stand down every issue regarding the committees and adjourned the sitting to 4:00′pm on today (Tuesday) when he was sure the final compilation would have been done and the membership and leadership of the different committees announced.
Kutigi said,“We thought that by today we should be able to give everybody the committee in which they would serve but we have to apologise to you that we are still working on the committee list.
“It is not ready as at now. But we promise that by tomorrow afternoon session, we shall be able to tell you the committee to which you belong. So what we are going to do is to adjourn now until four o’clock tomorrow.”
Meanwhile,  Dr. Tunji Braithwaite has condemned the 1999 constitution describing the constitution as decree 24. He added that the conference must therefore be as much a development Conference as a Constitutional one.
He also said that the existing six geo-political zones cannot work in Nigeria saying that the only system that can work is confederal system.
