By Nuel Suji – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said on Monday that the current allegations and counter-allegations of budget padding among members of the National Assembly (NASS) is a vindication of his position that the lawmakers are corrupt.Speaker Yakubu Dogara

Obasanjo had earlier accused the federal lawmakers of corruption, describing them as lacking in integrity. He was replied by Dino Melaye, a senator from Kogi who accused the former president bribing NASS members during his controversial third term bid.

But Obasanjo on Monday in Abuja said he was vindicated by the strong allegations of corruption leveled against Speaker Yakubu Dogara by the sacked chairman of Appropriation Committee, Jibrin Abdulmumini.

He spoke while fielding questions from the journalists, after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Villa.

The former President reiterated that the ongoing altercation among the Leadership of the House was a confirmation of his previous submission that many of the Nigerian Lawmakers are “robbers” and “rogues”.

He maintained that he had said this before and the raging controversy has justified his position.

While calling for election of men of integrity into the NASS, the former Head of State also urged President Buhari to be very vigilant of the activities of the NASS members.

Obasanjo while commenting on purpose of his another visit to the Aso Villa indicated that he came to deliver messages of his recent trips to Liberia, Gambia and Seychelles Island.
