BREAKING: Ahmad Ahmad Defeats Issa Hayatou To Become New CAF President

By Nuel Suji – Confederation of African Football President, Issa Hayatou has been defeated by Ahmad Ahmad in a keenly contest election.

Ahmad, a Madagascan born contender polled 34 votes as against Hayatou’s 20 votes at the CAF Congress in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Thursday.

Hayatou who is a Cameroonian had been in power for 29 years and was seeking an 8th four-year term.

By his defeat, he also loses his FIFA position and his place on the body’s ruling council.

Hayatou has served for 29 years as CAF president until his defeat Thursday, had defeated his previous opponents since 1988 when he was elected.
