Bindow Flags Off Construction Of UNHCR’s 100 Housing Units For IDPs

YOLA/By Dan Garba – Adamawa State Governor, Muhammad Jibrilla Bindow has on Monday flag off the construction of 100 housing estate for the internally displaced persons in the state.

The 100 units of 2 bedroom flats is undertaken by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Nigeria.

The Governor expressed appreciation to the UNHCR for coming to the aid of the displaced persons in Maiha local government in quick response.

He said this will enhance the return of many displaced persons and also assure them of a better future since, according to him, the most critical need of man which is shelter is been provided them.

Also speaking, Chief of Staff in Adamawa State Abdulrahman Abba Jimeta, who expressed appreciation to the UNHCR, called on them to extend same gesture to all the 7 local government areas that was affected by the insurgency in the state.

Chairman of Maiha local Government, D. R Amin, also thanked the state governor for ensuring that the housing project for displaced persons in Maiha local government area became a reality. He welcomed the UNHCR delegation and promised to support them in all aspects so as to ease the construction work.

The UN representative at the occasion called for proper maintenance of the houses by would-be occupants as a means of ensuring maximum benefit of the gesture. He added that the act of assisting those in need is the job of everyone and not a chosen few.

Goodwill messages were delivered by notable sons of Maiha local government area which centered on appreciating the United Nations and pledge of support and cooperation with the contractors.

60 units of 2 bedroom flats will be constructed in phase 1 and construction work has since commenced at the site.
