By Dipo Awojobi – A banker and wife, Oluchi Tochukwu, was arrested Wednesday with two others by the Ogun State Police command over a failed attempt to kill her husband Onyebuchi Tochukwu in Lagos.
She and the two other suspects: a 32-year-old Chigozie Smart and 36-year-old Kingsley Ikechukwu were paraded in Eleweran, Abeokuta by the Police, which said the suspects had attacked their victim in his compound at Agungi area of Ajah in Lagos state, but luck ran out on them as they were intercepted in Ijebu ode area while attempting to escape with the victims’ vehicle to the Eastern part of the country.
Narrating their activity, state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu said the banker Oluchi planned the killing of her estranged husband by arranging and keeping the weapons used in the attack in the husband’s compound in Ajah.
“The suspects went there as planned, inflicted machete wounds on the man and poured acid on him. It was the smoke and the offensive odour from the suit worn by the man when the acid touched it that made the suspects to abandon him and went away with his Range Rover Jeep which the wife instructed them to deliver to her brother in Anambra state,” the police boss said.
He explained that the couple had been separated for a while with the wife living with her father somewhere in Ayobo area of Lagos state, while the husband had a date with a court yesterday over the custody of the only daughter of the marriage.
Fielding questions from newsmen during their parade at Eleweeran, the banker denied contracting the duo of Chigozie and Kingsley and one other at large to kill her husband.
She acknowledged to journalists that their three-year-old marriage had crashed but said she had no reason to kill her husband, against which Chigozie Smart maintained that Oluchi contracted them to kill Tochukwu with a promised reward of tokunbo cars for him and the other suspects.
