National leaders of the All Progressive Congress has urged Governor Chubuike Amaechi to lead his supporters in the state into its fold to enable it rescue power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP in the next general elections.

The APC led by its National Chairman Mr. Bisi Akande and its national leader Senator Bola Tinubu had last week met with the governors of Sokoto, Jigawa and Kano in furtherance of its final negotiations bid with the aggrieved PDP governors.

At a rally in Port Harcourt,  Akande urged Amaechi to join APC which he described as party of progressives. “We have seen that governor Amaechi is progressive and a courageous fighter of democracy, we have seen this in governor Amaechi and the River people. We therefore invite him to join the APC,” Akande declared.

Also speaking at the rally, Tinubu first apologized to the people for their inability to visit the state on Monday as earlier scheduled, saying the airspace was closed.

He said Amaechi had in the past led many amendment into the constitution as chairman of the speaker’s forum, l know he is a progressive, he said, stressing that the Rivers governors was an achiever who was being persecuted because of his fight for better oil revenue for the state.

“We are not here to campaign, rather we are here to thank you and invite all of you to APC. I know if there is a referendum today, we will have 100percent,” Tinubu added.

He said the APC was on a mission to rescue Nigeria from “polarisation, intimidation and harrassment.”

Other APC leaders at the rally includes former governor of Edo, Mr. John Oyegun and Mr. Tom Ikimi.
