Pastor Adeboye Announces Successor, Obayemi Now Heads R.C.C.G Nigeria

By Nuel Suji – The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) worldwide, Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has announced a structural change in the administration of the church in Nigeria.

The 75-year old named Joshua Obayemi, who until now was the Special Assistance to the G.O. on finance, as the National Overseer.

Dr. Adeboye, however, remains the General Overseer of the church worldwide.

Announcing his decision to step aside from Nigeria role on Saturday, at the annual ministers’ thanksgiving at Shimawa, Ogun State, the G.O. also named Johnson Odesola, as the new church secretary, while another Pastor J.A. Adeyokunnu, appointed treasurer.

Mr. Odesola, a Pastor was the Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel

At the Holy Ghost Conference, Dr. Adeboye asked the ministers to pray for the new leadership..

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was among the ministers of God present at the meeting.

Dr. Adeboye was ordained the general overseer of the Redeemed in 1981, following the death of its founder and pioneer head, Pa Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi.

Mr. Adeboye was born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State.

He had his B.Sc. in Mathematics at University of Nigeria Nsukka, and subsequently got his PhD in applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos, and worked as a lecturer in Mathematics at the universities of Lagos and Ilorin, before going into full time priesthood in 1984.

After joining the RCCG in 1973, he began working to translate the sermons of its then Pastor and founder, Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, from Yoruba into English.

The Church was founded the church in 1952.

Under his leadership, the church experienced huge growth and currently has branches in 192 countries.
