By Tom Garba, Yola – The Adamawa government is to boost its treasury with a N1.5 billion from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)targeted in the next six months in the state.
Gov. Jibrilla Bindow made this known at the signing ceremony of the 2016 budget in Yola.
Bindow said that the improvement in the IGR would address the issue of non-payment of salaries to workers, though he did not mention the current IGR amount, said that his administration met a poor IGR caused by the insurgency.
He howeve,r said that the state had depended solely on the federation account as its source of revenue.
He also said that the issue of non-payment of salaries to local governments in the state would soon be a thing of the past.
“We are working assiduously with our consultants to improve the IGR of the state, as for now, we depend solely on the federal allocation to run the state.
“As I speak to you, we are targeting N1.5 billion in the next six months and that will take us a long way in addressing the challenge of non-payment of salaries to workers.
“We met a poor IGR caused due to insurgency in the state but I am glad to inform you that our IGR has started improving.
“Our consultant is working hard and we will surely meet our target of N1.5 billion in six months time.’’
The governor commended the state House of Assembly for their excellent handling of the budget, he said the signing of the 2016 budget was his first experience in office, assured that the budget would be implemented with prudence.
He sought the continue synergy between all arms of government in the state in enduring political stability and development in the state.
Earlier, Mr. Mahmud Inusa, Commissioner for Finance, said that the governor was to sign a N120 billion appropriation Act into law.
Inusa said the budget was fifty per cent for capital projects and fifty per cent for recurrent.
The commissioner, who referred to the budget as `budget for social change’said it would address social security, youth empowerment and infrastructural development in the state.
He gave an assurance that the implementation of the budget must follow due process to engender transparency and accountability.
In his remark, Alhaji Kabiru Mijinyawa, Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly called on the civil societies and NGOs to monitor the implementation of the budget to the later.
Mijinyawa, who was represented by Mr Sunday Peter, Deputy Speaker, gave an assurance that the house would supervise the implementation of the budget through its oversight function mechanism.
He commended the executive for their efficient budget defense during its scrutiny.
