50 Shops, Three Building, Several Millions Of Naira Lost In Lagos Fire Incident

No fewer that 50 lockup shops and three houses were destroyed in an early morning fire that engulfed the Balogun Market extension in Lagos Island with properties and goods worth millions of Naira destroyed.

Official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told News Investigators that the inferno, suspected to have been caused by a power surge from an electrical spark from a transformer, started at about 4:36 a.m. before it spread to other part.

Although no casualty was recorded, the fire was said to have spread faster because of the harmattan weather which aided its spread.

Eyewitness also blamed the haphazard manner the shops were built, citing it as reason why failed to easily gain access into the affected buildings.

Items like bags, shoes, cloths, jewelries and groceries among other stuffs were among the goods destroyed before it was contained by a combined team of fire service men drawn from both Federal and State Fire Service.
