NEMA Recovers Corpse From Lagos Boat Mishap

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it has recovered  the corpse of one person who died in the Sunday boat explosion at the Capital Oil Jetty in Lagos.

The deceased identified as Emmanuel Onu was reported missing after the boat mishap that occurred over the weekend.

Some others passengers were also reported injured when the passenger boat exploded in Lagos while trying to refill gasoline at Capital Oil Jetty.

The boat belonging to Aquitien Oil and Gas exploded at Victoria Island area of Lagos, Nigeria on Friday, leaving many people injured and one dead, who was identified as Emmanuel Onu.

Onu was initially declared missing but his dead body was recovered on Sunday. The deceased relatives raised the alarm over the missing of Onu, who was later found to be dead.

Spokesperson, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye said the agency intervened after being told of the missing person.

According to Farinloye, the boat took off from V-Craft Jetty, Lekki Phase I and exploded while trying to refill gasoline at Capital Oil Jetty at Victoria Island.

“The boat which was said to belong to Aquitien Oil and Gas, took off from V-Craft Jetty, Lekki Phase One, and while trying to refill gasoline at Capital Oil Jetty at Victoria Island, the engine exploded.

“A relative, Sunday Ezugha, of one of the missing passengers Emmanuel Onu called and narrated that the owner of the boat Aquitien Oil and Gas could not be reached since the incident occurred,” he stated.
